The EdgeCast Picnic, held at the quad on the sunny Santa Monica College campus this year, was the venue for the first-ever EdgeCast Olympics. Naturally, there was a strong turnout for our proud athletes, who competed in an exciting, elimination-style test of Herculean strength, endurance, and wits. The event started with a bang, the bang of Lior the Great’s hammer that is. His powerful strike was a reflection of the athletes’ determination and complete seriousness throughout the day. Our athletes, Brenda, Derek, Derrick, Patrick, and Sinh, battled it out in four strenuous events: the marshmallow challenge, the air-slide time trial, an endurance watermelon-eating contest, and a water-balloon race. In the end, Derek showed that he was above the rest, both figuratively and literally, with the pride of being the inaugural winner and with a high-altitude remote-controlled helicopter (which appropriately had four propellers to represent the four events he dominated in). Will our fierce victor be able to repeat his feats next year? Or will a hungry challenger be able to snatch his title away? Join us again next year to find out. * Reporting is brought to you by ADN, with official timing by Origin.
